Can you help us
drive attendance
at our Open Day?

The clearing period, starting the day after Scottish exam results, is highly competitive as institutions vie for attention. Many see clearing as a last-chance option.

Glasgow Kelvin College offers courses from stone masonry to access to medicine, aiming to maximise community opportunities. The Open Day during clearing helps people of all ages find their way. This campaign drove thousands of website visits and resulted in the busiest Open Day in the college’s history, with attendance increasing by over 500%. It was recognised as best marketing/PR campaign at the Herald Higher Education Awards 2024.

OUR
CREATIVE
PROCESS

Balancing messages of disappointment with those of aspiration and hope has been challenging, especially during the exam period, which often brings feelings of hopelessness and uncertainty.

To address this, we established an official awareness day to highlight the vast array of career options and opportunities available at the college’s Open Day, aiming to redefine perceptions about clearing. We enlisted prominent figures in business and education, including millionaire businessman Lord Willie Haughey, a former student of Springburn College (one of Kelvin’s founding colleges) and renowned fashion designer Siobhan Mackenzie.

We commissioned a study of 2,000 Scots,
revealing key findings, including:

70% of parents believe their children are pushed down career paths too early

64% of people wished they could go back in time and make a different choice following school, with 61% saying they’d have chosen something more practical

82% of Scottish parents would encourage their children to train in a practical profession when they leave school

43% of Scots believe they rushed into choosing a career after school, with 38% unhappy with the career advice they were given

42% were unaware that college was even an option

This campaign drove thousands of website visits and resulted in the busiest Open Day in the college’s history, with attendance increasing by over 500%.
